Why should there be some Adventure in our Lives?

People are too busy with their professional and personal commitments. Most of the time, the activities we perform in the routine course of our lives are almost the same. Human nature is very different from other creatures; they get fed up with monotonous routines. People want a change in their lives, but in most cases, it is difficult to break free from that monotonous environment due to the nature of our earnings and life patterns. Despite this, they can break that pattern of life, at least for a shorter period of time, to entertain themselves with adventure. In most people, an adventurous character is hidden, which many of them don’t know. If we want to know what adventure is, according to the Oxford Dictionary, “Adventure is an unusual, exciting, or daring experience.” If we take a look at human nature, it is evident from history that they are always exploring new ways to entertain themselves.

Now we come back to our main topic of discussion: why should there be some adventure in our lives? The answer is that it is like an energy-boosting shot people require after a certain time to replenish their energies and get back to work with full passion and commitment. How does it happen? Monotonous routines affect human life in the following ways:

Mental health problems

Following the same activities for a long time in the workplace leads to job boredom, which ultimately leads to job burnout. This also badly affects the mental condition of anyone, and in recent research, it has been observed that people become victims of depression, hypertension and anxiety. In these conditions, there will be mood swings in a person, which affect the consistent behavior of people at work and in their personal lives. As a result, people avoid interaction with these people, and gradually they are moving to isolation, which escalates these issues more rapidly.

Physical health problems

When someone's mental health is disturbed, it can also affect their physical health. Research shows that conditions such as depression, stress, and anxiety can lead to chronic headaches and increase the risk of insomnia, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. In this context, mental and physical healths are interconnected. Therefore, job boredom and burnout can be detrimental to anyone and should be prevented through a proper strategy.

Social Problems

Not addressing the issue of job boredom and burnout doesn't just impact an individual's physical and mental health; it also leads to serious social issues. It has been observed that individuals experiencing these conditions may turn to excessive gambling, alcoholism, and drug addiction. These social problems not only harm the individual but also have a negative impact on society as a whole.

Solution

Finding the solution to this issue is not simple, and experts are making serious efforts to overcome it. Recently, a few workable solutions have been developed to handle the issues of job boredom and burnout. This includes job crafting, compulsory vacations, and involving people in adventurous activities. In job crafting, tasks should be designed in an interesting way that workers may enjoy doing their work. The important thing here is to keep modifying that process after a certain period; otherwise, the same phenomena will arise again. Job crafting is a challenging task because it is not easy to make every job interesting as per the nature of activities related to each job. The second thing is to encourage people to take vacations so that they may spend some time out of that routine environment. This can be helpful if this time is spent outside of family routines. Last but not least, involve people in some adventurous activities. These activities suddenly change the minds of people for a while, and it is evident that they have a strong impact on all three issues of physical health, mental health, and social problems we discussed earlier.

Summing Up

In the above brief discussion, it is evident that job boredom and job burnout are issues of deep concern. Ignoring these issues has strong negative economic and social impacts. Organizations must take these issues seriously and develop effective strategies through their HR departments to handle them in light of the above-mentioned recommendations. It is observed that many organizations have counselors for this purpose, but better long-term feedback is not likely to be received regarding these issues because, after these counseling sessions, people have to go back to the same monotonous environment. The important thing is to change the environment by involving them in adventurous activities. It is highly recommended to seek consultation from professionals providing these services.
